Honoured On Occasion
George C. Blight,
Albert County secretary - treasurer since May, 1925, was honoured by the county Thursday evening on the occasion of his forthcoming
retirement with a banquet at The Rocks in Hopewell Cape, Mr. Blight, who will retire at the end of this month, is
a veteran of the First World War, an honorary life member of the New Brunswick Union of Municipalities and has attended union
of municipalities meetings since 1925 without a single absence. Donald Bishop of Hopewell, county warden, presented Mr. Blight
with an engraved silver tray, while Mrs. Bishop presented Mrs. Blight with a bouquet of roses, on behalf of the municipality.
The retiring secretary-treasurer was also presented with a painting, of the municipal building, done by artist Gerald
Schaap of Weldon, C. A. O. Morris, chairman of the county school finance board, on behalf of the board, and with an
easy chair by Miss Martha Nelson, senior employee, on behalf of employees of the municipal building. Osman Steeves of Hillsboro,
a county councillor, chaired the committee in charge and was master of ceremonies for the banquet. Other committee members
were Warden Bishop, and Councillors W. A. Shaw of Riverview and Mrs. Mildred Bennett of Alma. Guests present for the banquet
included members of the county council and their wives, members of the Albert County School Finance Board and their wives
and members of the staff of the staff of the municipal building and wives. Special guests were Robert Blight a son of
the secretary-treasurer, of Dartmouth, N.S.; a sister of the guest of honour, Miss Mary K. Blight of Moncton, Miss Geneva
Bennett, Hopewell, G. A. McIntyre, superintendent of county schools, and Mrs. McIntyre; Mark Yeoman, county solicitor, and Mrs.
Yeoman: Mrs. Irma Morrison, county auditor, and Mr. Morrison: Page Steeves, registrar of deeds, and Mrs Steeves. The master
of ceremonies introduced members of the municipal council and guest, while Mr. Morris introduced members of the county school
finance board, H. A. Terris of Hillsboro, assistant county secretary-treasurer, introduced employees of his department, and
William Randall, chairman of the board of assessors, introduced his staff. Mr. Terris is to take over as county secretary-treasurer
on October 1, 1964.
